UK National Tree Seed Project
Our first batch of seed collected for the UK National Tree Seed Project on Wednesday was Raspberry.
This project has been set up to collect a genetically comprehensive collection of tree and shrub seed from all around the UK.
This collection will be used for research and conservation purposes and will be stored at -20 degrees which keeps it viable for long periods.
CVCWT will be collecting seed from 16 species of trees and shrubs at low and high altitudes where possible.
We will of course be leaving plenty of seed for the wildlife, aiming to take no more than 20% of the available seed in a population of trees at a site.http://www.creevalley.com/uk-national-tree-seed-project/
